The 6th Annual Bluegrass for the Greenbelt Music Festival announces the addition of a Friday, June 3rd, performance, jam, and overnight campout to the popular event.   Concessions for wine, beer and dinner will also be available.

Held at the historic Dunsmuir-Hellman estate, the campout will feature live performances by harmony-driven duo, Nell Robinson & Jim Nunally, and the Greenbelt Bluegrass Band (GBB), followed by bluegrass karaoke and a jam session hosted by the GBB, open to the audience and campers.

“The campout just seems like a natural extension of the festival,” said event organizer Eliote Durham. “It gives bluegrass music fans and supporters of the Greenbelt Alliance an outdoor bluegrass festival experience in an urban setting.”

Bluegrass for the Greenbelt is produced by the Greenbelt Alliance, which for 50 years has been the San Francisco Bay Area’s leading advocate for open spaces and vibrant places. The music festival continues on Saturday, June 4th, and features performances by Jimmy Dale Gilmore with the Wronglers, Marley’s Ghost, Laurie Lewis & the Right Hands, the Kathy Kallick Band, the Tuttles with AJ Lee, and Arann Harris and the Farm Band.

Friday evening’s activities with begin at 7 with a meet-and-greet to campers by the performers. The music kicks off at 7:30 with the Greenbelt Bluegrass Band, an all-star lineup of local bluegrass talent led by Jeanie and Chuck Poling, favorites of the bluegrass scene for their community-building jams and events, their music, humor, and their warm way of getting you involved and singing.

Beginning at 8 is a performance by Nell Robinson & Jim Nunally, reminiscent of classic country duets like George Jones and Tammy Wynette as well as singing siblings like the Louvin and Stanley Brothers. Think Del McCoury meets Iris Dement.  Alongside their own original material, Nell Robinson and Jim Nunally cover music ranging from Bill Monroe to Nine Inch Nails. Nell’s debut CD Nell Robinson in Loango made national bluegrass and Americana charts throughout the country. Jim Nunally is a world-class guitarist, vocalist and songwriter, and has toured extensively with the David Grisman Bluegrass Experience and John Reischman.

Then please join members of the Greenbelt Bluegrass Band for a jam session open to all, and for those intrepid souls who would like to sing along with a full band, there’s bluegrass karaoke!

“I was thrilled that we were booked to perform at the campout, but I also wanted to find a way for the audience and campers to participate in the fun,” said Robinson. “Bluegrass music is very community oriented and really encourages group participation.”
